It is located in the steppe flat part of the Southern Mangyshlak in immediate proximity to the water area of the Caspian Sea and administratively enters into composition of Tupkaragan region of Mangistau oblast. Deep-hole prospect drilling at Dunga area was begun in February 1966. Gas accumulation was discovered in J-1 horizon (in the well No1) in February 1969, the first commercial oil inflow from Aptian productive horizon was obtained in June 1969 in the well No6. Administrative center of the region Aktau city is located in 50 km from the field.

Total 10 wells were drilled, including: during PPT (Project of Production Testing) – 7 wells (No26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32) during EID (experimental-industrial development) – 3 wells (No33, 34, 35)
As of 07.12.2006: Running 5 wells (No28, 30, 32, 27, 34) Shutdown of 2 wells (No 26, 29)
Basic measures planned for 2007
Continuation of fulfillment of the Project of experimental-industrial development: Drilling of two vertical wells DGA-36 and DGA-40 Drilling of one horizontal well DGA-39 Drilling of horizontal well DGA-38, under the condition of permit from the Central Development Commission
Continuation of preventive maintenance and current repair of available wells
As required concentric tubing workover with replacement of pumps is provided
Construction of equipment on primary gas processing and pipeline with exit to the domestic market.
